SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce's Call for Clearer Guidance on Digital Assets and Custody
March 22nd | 2021
SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce, speaking at the British Blockchain Association Conference, recently advocated for the SEC to provide more clarity concerning Bitcoin exchange-traded products and custodial services for digital assets. The Commissioner compares the SEC’s approach to the CFTC’s approach, noting that there is no SEC approved Bitcoin ETP yet there is a meaningful Bitcoin futures market and banks can use stable coins for payment activity. Commissioner Peirce has frequently been at the forefront of digital asset discussions and often provides interesting commentary at industry events. Commissioner Peirce is scheduled to participate in the upcoming Security Token Summit later this week.
